Oracle is releasing DTRACE for OELinux

This means that it can be used to create a very granular framework for looking into the OS and applications. As soon as I get my copy, I plan on incorporating some of my old DTrace scripts from my time as a Sun PS engineer against OEL, ad format them to output first to the zabbix trapper service, ands then directly to the agent. Anyone interested?

System tap has been available for Linux since 2005 (First release, 1.0 released in 2009), in addition System Tap is fully open sourced (GPL).

Has there been any effort to incorporate metrics or data from DTrace (on Solaris) or SystemTap (on Linux) into the Zabbix agents?

This thread is certainly interesting... it will be interesting to see if Oracle tries to port DTrace to Linux but not GPL the resulting port (no idea how they'd do that... I'd think the changes couldn't be simply encapsulated into a 'dtrace' kernel module...)

I was reading some blogs about the OEL release of DTrace and one of them said it was pretty much crap. I also get the hunch that person was a Solaris fanboy based on previous posts so they may have been judging it from how DTrace works on Solaris.

I agree I think if Zabbix had some support built in for SystemTap that would be awesome. http://sources.redhat.com/systemtap/wiki
