Actually you need neither, and that's the whole point. You just go to support.hp.com and search for "HP WBEM Providers" for your server model.
You install that and you're done.

            Hi all
            Sorry, figured out.
when upgrading to zabbih Server 2.0, a server in the host name was specified host name is not correct, because it was found that the template should match the hostname with the hostname of the server where the agent is installed, and the register too.

            Great template, it works 100%

                  some feedback...

i've only add two hosts using this template so far.

it was able to detect 2 x predictive failures of my hdd's which i promptly replaced. i was previously monitoring this device with snmp and this wasn't trapped out by the HP snmp agent for some reason.

it also picked up the iml log errors...

so thank you and nice work. i'm in a mad rush to add the some other servers now!

Strange data coming back from WBEM

Firstly, thanks for an excellent template and solution.

I have installed all the templates, scripts and HP software as outlined in your guide and everything seems to be bringing data back in. There are a few items that are bringing back strange data elements (into the Zabbix Latest Data page (see below)

                    Code:
                    HP Physical Disk "Port:1I Box:1 Bay:1" poweron hours 01 Jan 2013 18:30:24 24.27 Khours +24.27 Khours Graph
                        HP Physical Disk "Port:1I Box:1 Bay:1" status 01 Jan 2013 19:09:34 2 2Ok*Err - Graph
                        HP Physical Disk "Port:1I Box:1 Bay:1" temperature 01 Jan 2013 19:05:09 50 'C - Graph
In the zabbix_agentd.log file on the client server though it seems that the data is being collected correctly by your scripts. It receives a value of [2] which is what I would expect. Somewhere in there an additional 20K*Err is being added and I cant see where.

Clearly this is going to stop the triggers working as they should.

Importantly as you can see above it is not for all items as the poweron hours works fine as does the temperature.

I am using Zabbix 2.0.4 with the same client and version 9 of the HP software. I have also tried this on several HP servers with the same challenge.

                    You help would be appreciated.

                    Thanks

I finally worked it out and the 20K*Err is the Units within the Item Prototype. I dont know why it has changed to be this and I now need to work out what the codes mean.

                      Thanks for a brilliant Template....

Sorry I didnt see this sooner..
The codes were a trivial mode to note what the values mean for that particular item.
2Ok*Err means: a value of 2 indicates everything is ok, everything else (*) is an error.

Other units are something like 0OK1St2Ps (or something like that), which has the following meaning: 0 the service is running, 1 it is stopped, 2 the service is paused.

Thanks mmarkwitzz - I appreciate you coming back to me. I have been trying to find the documentation that details the codes that WBEM produces so I can create a Value Mapping for all the Template Discovery Items. Do you know where that is on the HP site? Once I find it I will create a list and post it back up here for each of your Items.

                          Cheers

                            re: jimma1972

Oh, don't go there, it's a mess. Some of them are in a formal document from HP.

I'll search the net and get aack to you.

But more of them I extracted directly from the MOF files, as the documentation is incomplete. The truth is only HP knows the meaning for all values.

The WMI functions return arrays of results. Usually only array0 holds important info, but the other array members (if available) can have other error codes which can be more specific. The script only interprets the array0 value. Decyphering this mess is the hardest thing I had to do for a zabbix template and I never wanna open that pandora's box again
