Not sure if this is possible or not.
I have a template that covers a large group of servers.
I have another template that covers a smaller subset of the larger group of servers.
I want to set up a trigger for an alert on the smaller subset, but the items I'd be alerting on are all contained in the template that covers the larger group.

I don't want the trigger to go out to the full group, because it's only applicable on the small subset, and having to manually disable it on all other servers is a non-starter.
There's no situation where the servers in this subset won't have the over-arching template applied to them, but I understand why the cross-template trigger limitation exists. Is there a workaround that anyone has found?
An option I thought about was being able to output an item value to a Macro for the server, and then calling the macro on the trigger instead of trying to directly call the item. This only seems to be possible by using the Host Inventory, which feels a little too kluge-y. Is there a way to output an item to a custom Macro that anyone is aware of?
Thanks in advance!
