Cisco Switch Templates

Kindly find attached a few CISCO switch templates I created for my install. I hope other users find them useful.

All the templates have a custom graph associated with each port. Users will have ensure that the following value maps are configured:

dot3StatsDuplexStatus

1 ⇒ Unknown
2 ⇒ HalfDuplex
3 ⇒ FullDuplex

Port Status

1 ⇒ Up
2 ⇒ Down
3 ⇒ Testing
4 ⇒ Unknown
5 ⇒ Dormant
6 ⇒ NotPresent
7 ⇒ LowerLayerDown

WRN - Bugs in Gerry's Cisco templates and pbm with zbx-1.6.3 import

Hello,
I should warn you that I have been in trouble, trying to import the valuable Cisco templates that Gerry.Vaz has made (thanks to him).
I found a syntax error in the XML file structure of at least two templates : Zabbix_Template_Switch_Cisco_C4503.xml and Zabbix_Template_Switch_Cisco_C4507.xml.

Into these files, line 6 is screwed. You read: <dns />, instead of <dns></dns> . Line 7 is not indented correctly also.

I got another issue also: it was not possible to import the templates into the php GUI of the Zabbix version 1.6.3 . I had to revert to the Zbx 1.6.2 GUI to succeed into the import of the template (or any template).
So, to the developper community, there may be an issue in the php import code of the zbx 1.6.3 php GUI.
Now, your turn to make magic and kill the bugs ;-)

I don't import things all the day but it is annoying when you need it, and cannot import it

The last zabbix_agentd configuration for Linux Firewalls should be:

UserParameter=iptstate.other,iptstate -s -t | sed   '1d;2s/^.*OTHER: //;q'

instead of the one that does tail then head then sed.

Monitoring Panda AdminSecure console

I've created a template and vbs script for monitoring panda installations that have adminsecure installed.

The vbs file needs to be placed in c:\zabbix and a scheduled task created to run every 10 mins or so with the following command
cscript /nologo c:\zabbix\PandaSQL.vbs

If you run it with PrintOnly on the end then it lists out all the info that it would be sending to zabbix.

You'll need to modify the file to point to your sql database and it works better with SQL express than the MSDE installs and the current versions of panda recommend you use SQL express instead of MSDE.

To monitor the eventlog on windows machines, you need to do a "three-stage-rocket"

1. Create the ITEMS for the eventlog, usually three (System, Application, Security)
2. Create the TRIGGERS for the eventlog.
3. Create ACTION if needed, personally i do not use it.

SNMP monitoring - Zabbix without agents

i wanted to share my work, which I did because I cannot install Zabbix agents on monitored hosts (company policy).

I made a Perl script which parses the output of your SNMP agent, and provides four basic checks, with triggers and graphs - that's a good point to start. All (almost) are scaled from 0 to 100, so you can show them on one graph as a percentage usage value

* CPU usage / Load average
* Total memory usage (physical + virtual)
* Primary partition usage (C: or /)
* Ping time in seconds

To the Zabbix authors - this can be included into Zabbix template gallery, maybe someone will reuse, leverage and improve my work.

The problems: host overhead - this is using external script to do SNMP checks. I would gladly see this imported into Zabbix server code, in the SNMP part, so it could use some caching, macro substitution etc.
For example, to compute CPU usage, I need to get a number of CPUs installed every time, which is time consuming. The same with memory and disk usage - I need to parse the device table each time to find the proper indexes.

Added a template for the Cisco VPN3000 concentrator series with 3 NIC's.
Works great with 2 nic's, items get "not supported".
