    AIX5- Monitoring LPARS

Does anyone have an AIX landscape involving LPARS?

How do you guys use Zabbix to monitor AIX? Can Zabbix internals monitor AIX host metrics? How do you get frame level metrics using Zabbix?

I'm just curious because we are moving towards AIX for all hardware and we will be creating partitions for each instance.

    Thanks,

I think that Zabbix support for AIX is pretty poor. Take a look at the chart of supported parameters in the manual and you'll see that very little is supported on AIX. If I had more AIX machines and fewer Linux machines I would drop Zabbix without hesitation - the reason I use a monitoring tool is to avoid having to write one from scratch, but trying to use Zabbix with AIX feels almost like I'm writing my own agent.

We are going to make number of improvements for the AIX agent very soon. You may also consider using of our commercial services to develop missing parts, normally it is just a 4-8 hours of development per each new check.

Another alternative is to use the NMON tool, which is designed specifically for AIX monitoring.

We are currently exploring ways to import the NMON data into Zabbix.
