Cut and Paste walkthrough of Zabbix installation on CentOS 5

    Howdy folks,

I have a page on my site which is a cut and paste walkthrough installation of zabbix on CentOS or RHEL 5.

Meta descriptions are HTML attributes that provide concise explanations of the contents of web pages. They should optimally be between 150-160 characters.

Let me know if you find it helpful, or if you think it needs improvement.

    TTYL!

Nice tutorial. Maybe you could fuse/link your tutorial with the current tutorial that´s on the zabbix wiki (http://www.zabbix.com/wiki/doku.php?...:centosinstall)

there's a typo section "in /etc/init.d/zabbix_server (again, not the # Hash marks, they are required), "

    chkconfig –level 345 mysql don

oops! I didn't even know there was another tutorial for the exact same thing!

They look mostly the same, i'll figure out a way to link to it on the wiki as an alternative.

P.S. Thanks for pointing out the typo. I did an install based on my own instructions, and fixed any typo's, but I think I typo'd my fix!

And when you don't need something special, the most uncomplicated way is
        - install EPEL repository from http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/EPEL/FAQ#howtouse
        - run "yum --enablerepo=epel-testing install zabbix zabbix-web zabbix-agent"

All prepared from the Fedora Project.

        ;-)

          no problem!

maybe you could include the installation/configuration of fping. fping is needed for ICMP pings (icmpping and icmppingsec).

          1. downloading rpm.. or yum install..

          2. chmodding (from the zabbix manual)
          Code:
          chown root:zabbix /usr/sbin/fping
          chmod 710 /usr/sbin/fping
          chmod ug+s /usr/sbin/fping
          3. editing the zabbix_server.conf
          Code:
          # Location of 'fping. Default is /usr/sbin/fping
          # Make sure that fping binary has root permissions and SUID flag set
          FpingLocation=/usr/sbin/fping

            Just in case.

FYI, your user account and password work for the wiki to log in and edit.

Not completely...this doesn't show what config files need to be modified to monitor. But, if that was added it would be easier.

                  Trying the script right now...

                  checking for curl-config... /usr/bin/curl-config
checking for the version of libcurl... 7.15.5
checking for libcurl >= version 7.13.1... yes
checking for main in -lcurl... no
configure: error: Not found libcurl library
                  fail: Configure

Will try again with manual libcurl install I guess...

Not sure how you managed to get that error... What does this output?

                    Code:
                    $ rpm -qa|egrep 'release|curl'

                      Thanks for the reply bbrendon,

I've re-installed Centos at this point.

I failed to mention that this is a 64 bit install in a virtual machine, has your script worked on 64 bit Centos?

                      Thanks,

It should work on i686 and x86_64.

I developed it on 32bit, but should work either way. Others have reported that it works, but I'm not sure on what architecture.

Did you yum update to make sure you're running the latest CentOS first?

                            Yes, updated everything...

I'll try it again and see what happens.

I'm loading up a 64 bit instance to test. I'll let you know...
