Best way to document monitoring setups for future troubleshooting?

I’ve been setting up monitoring for a few cloud instances and noticed that I sometimes forget the exact steps or configurations I used when I need to troubleshoot later. Recently, I started recording short clips from cepcutapk while configuring things (dashboards, triggers, etc.) just so I can go back and review them if needed. I usually trim and organize these clips quickly in CapCut so they’re easier to follow later.
Curious how others handle this — do you rely on written documentation only, or do you also record your setup process in some way? Any tips for making troubleshooting easier down the line?

Started off with Microsoft OneNote to do things like Discovery rules. One thing I have learned when documenting the rules is to log the server's VPS (Values per second) display from the Global View dashboard before and after a discovery.

Also using Google Core Aps (Docs, Slides, Draw and Sheets) for various things since I need to share with my co-workers on things. For example using Google Docs for an operation log to document the weird stuff that happens to the servers I handle. The Google Slides document will show the results of one dashboard display (System information widget and a few item value widgets) once a week. One Google Sheets document has the various GPS locations for either host items, or building locations.
