Aggregate polls to zabbix_agentd

I remember reading about aggregating values from various servers but I was wondering if it was possible to aggregate requests from zabbix_agentd's.

I.e. Several requests are queued to be sent to a zabbix agent within the same second, could they be "bundled" into one request for multiple data sources (items).

Would this lower resource usage?

Is it possible without skewing statistics (with proper formulation i'm cant see it being a problem)?

Is it planned/already implemented?

It is planned. New XML based communication protocol makes this functionality possible.
