      and the default directory is /usr/local. where did you get that 'lib' attachment from ?
      did you try to pass /usr/local to zabbix configure script ?

        Yes, the default prefix is /usr/local but when you do a "make install", since it is a lib, it put binaries in $PREFIX/lib. So, if I do an ls I see :

        Code:
        user@server:~/libssh2-1.2.2$ ls -lhrt [b]/usr/local/lib[/b]
        total 1.3M
        drwxrwsr-x 3 root staff 4.0K 2009-05-07 15:19 python2.5
        -rwxr-xr-x 1 root staff 522K 2010-01-05 14:33 libssh2.so.1.0.1
        lrwxrwxrwx 1 root staff   16 2010-01-05 14:33 libssh2.so.1 -> libssh2.so.1.0.1
        lrwxrwxrwx 1 root staff   16 2010-01-05 14:33 libssh2.so -> libssh2.so.1.0.1
        -rwxr-xr-x 1 root staff  938 2010-01-05 14:33 libssh2.la
        -rw-r--r-- 1 root staff 783K 2010-01-05 14:33 libssh2.a
        drwxr-sr-x 2 root staff 4.0K 2010-01-05 14:33 pkgconfig
        When I say that the lib is in /usr/local/lib, it's because I have seen to it that the compiling process put them there.

          yes, and zabbix configure script will look for them in $whatever_you_pass/lib, so it'll be /usr/local/lib/lib.

          again, did you try passing /usr/local to zabbix configure script ?

            I found that if I got rid of the --enable-static configure option the libssh2 option finally worked as advertised... maybe this will help someone else.
