Usability Suggestions

Hello -

Thanks to all the developers who work on this project - this is a great tool! A couple suggestions for the next release:

* When adding plain text into a screen, allow for the number of entries displayed to be set. For example, I do not need to see the past 25 records of my uptime, host information, or Zabbix agent version.

* When adding new hosts the Use Templates drop down seems to be broke, you have to go back and change the host and then 'Add items from template'. Also, it would be nice to add things other than items, like graphs, triggers, screens - everything!

Cheers to a new release!

I haven't installed it yet... but will be doing so shortly. Here are a few more suggestions from my quick pokings around:

* Date the downloads. When was 1.0 released? When was 1.1a3 released? Date the docs. When did this documentation last change? Version the docs. Alpha3 appears to have many changes from Alpha2, if I need to find docs on Alpha2 items I am lost.

* More documentation! New naming convention has been introduced. So how does net.if.in differ from netload? What is mode? What different values for mode are possible? For that matter what different values for 'Units' are possible in the GUI? Why is the use of UserParameter=something[*] not in the docs? Even with all the features in the world if they are not well documented it makes them very hard to use.

* Allow for more customization of graphs. Sounds like the Y axis bug was fixed, but it might be good to let me dynamically change the Y axis. How about the X axis - let me set a range of dates to graph instead of only from date. Also, it would be nice to define a graph to by default show everything from some loosely defined metric, such as the first of the month.

* Allow for more information which would be useful to colocated servers. These servers are usually charged by either the 95th percentile rule (should be able to display any percentile), or by total data transfered.

* Allow for additional calculations of graphed values, for instance: I have a record of the number of bytes in/out recorded for a given period of time for an interface, I may want to display the integrated graph for total data transfered for some time, or the derivative to display the change in flow of data.


Anybody else have anything? Any comments or feedback for these?

I agree, especially on the 95th percentile and the additional calculations.

For example, we should be able to graph using net.if.in[eth1,bytes] and display the MBPS (done with multipliers already) AS WELL as a red line showing the 95th percentile.

Additionally it would be great to add a calculation the the previous graph such as Transfer in GB: XGB. This should be based on the data gathered from net.if.in[eth1,bytes].
