Hello,

A while ago there was some discussions about bandwidth accounting, ie. total MB/s per period.

Has there been any development on this recently? I am sure it would be easy to officially support, even if it were an additional table.

May we have more details about your requirements?

At the moment we have SNMP counters for bandwidth coming across interface "em0", from this we get a speed per second.

If we could add another item type or (insert good way of doing it here) that would count these values, we would be able to use zabbix to do basic accounting, ie Host123 downloaded 500GB this period (hour, month, year).

Would this be a good feature or is it something that is already possible?

It won't appear in 1.1. Perhaps it will be added to 1.2 roadmap, not sure yet.

For now I will keep patching the graph frontend to output the total sum of value s from period X-Y from item integer Z stored "As Is" (from the history table).

It works and is fairly easy to patch, just it is kind of annoying that its a work around.

Would it be useful to have a "plugin" system to zabbix to enable custom php scripts some leverage without worrying about them being overwritten at upgrades? Not sure if there is such a demand for this though.

Ipaccounter inside zabbix

Hi,

I'm trying to make new ip accounting sollution. It is working at the time, but I'd like to have all this functionality there, wich zabbix posesses. I thing it'd be silly to reinvent the wheel. The only problem is realy what's been posted here. Zabbix is not able to do any data accounting.

Imagine. You have a zabbix agent configured with the ipaccounter configurator, or whatever. Zabbix itself will also, or some template of it perhaps, be setup to fetch data using this configured agent. You get the delta. But now, you need to create graphs as well as reports (data in two weeks, five months, etc.).

So if you plan to implement something like this, I'm ready to help. Also I thing this would be an interesting feature.
