I would like to be able to specify the hostname in zabbix_agentd.conf as

Hostname=`uname -n`

or

Hostname=`hostname`

or maybe even

Hostname=`hostname`.`dnsdomainname`

it would sure make deploying to a large number of hosts a lot quicker. Or is it already in the docs and I just missed it?

From what little I can find about the autoregistration tool, I would have to say no.

I mean something so I don't have to edit the zabbix_agentd.conf file on every host I install zabbix on just to change the hostname parameter.

2fmtaylor2: may if not set simple get hostname? It's really simple. If you need i'm can create patch.
