L2TP/IPSEC monitoring with Zabbix and pfSense

    Hey guys!

We have a pfSense at work responsible for providing L2TP/IPSEC VPN for our workers. I have to track down who logged in, for how much time, how much traffic did the login incurred and how many connections per day that person made (so as to infer instability).

My question is: is Zabbix able to do that kind of monitor/report, or should I go with a home made script peryourhealth ?

Don't know how many users, but maybe you could mod something like this. One of the later posts includes data down- and up-loaded. But not pretty.

Obviously, there are no such metrics in the list of standard metrics that the zabbix agent can collect. And you are absolutely right - you can do everything you want using scripts and userparameter. For example, for fpsense there is a template based on which I was able to make a working solution for OpenVPN.

If you have developed solutions for collecting ipsec/l2tp metrics, it is likely that they can be collected, stored, and visualized using zabbix.
