Zabbix Pre 1.5 Build 4666: Can't recreate ZABBIX semaph

I get the following error under Fedora 7 when trying to execute zabbix_server (Version Pre 1.5 Build 4666)
/zabbix_server [2464]: ERROR: Can't recreate ZABBIX semaphores. [too many attempts]

Hi,

the same bug hit me on FreeBSD 6.2
I got rid of it by manually removing the left-over semaphores.

Check the command "ipcs -a" for sempahoreId in use by the zabbix user
and the do a "ipcrm -s semaphoreId"

I just tried build 4870 without success...

No luck here. Nothing owned by zabbix when doing ipcs -a

Wait. I reverted back to 1.4.2 and it won't start either! Ahh! Same error.

I'm not very familiar with semaphores.

Well, I don't see a solution. I doubled all the values in /proc/sys/kernel/sem and still nothing. Could some of those root sephaphores be for zabbix?

I don't know what else to do other than reboot!

Nope. But thanks for posting and saving me the time of trying. I'd like to upgrade and get a bunch of patches, but this a major show stopper for me.

Ya I've noticed a few show stopppers with 1.5. First the sql file, now this. Alexi any word on when the sql file will be integrated and the ticket can be closed, and when this may be fixed so we can test?

Got 1.5 to work....

I got 1.5 to run and got rid of the semaphores errors.

For Fedora 7 ( may work for othe OS versions), the following lines should be appended to the "/etc/sysctl.conf" file.

kernel.shmall = 2097152
kernel.shmmax = 2147483648
kernel.shmmni = 4096
# semaphores: semmsl, semmns, semopm, semmni
kernel.sem = 250 32000 100 128
net.ipv4.ip_local_port_range = 1024 65000
net.core.rmem_default=4194304
net.core.rmem_max=4194304
net.core.wmem_default=262144
net.core.wmem_max=262144

I do not think we have any problems with semaphore creation code in ZABBIX. I added more detailed debug information in case of any semaphore related errors to the latest code.

i have installed a new Ubuntu 6.06 LTS VM Server for new tests with latest Zabbix 1.5 (from 19.11) and I have also this error:
Warning: ZABBIX semaphores already exist, trying to recreate.

I cannot start Zabbix Server.
