Zabbix Pre 1.5 Build 4666: Can't recreate ZABBIX semaph

I have the same problem on Freebsd 5.5 with zabbix_agentd. I installed the one from ports and get this in my logs (DebugLevel=4):
zabbix_agentd [61790]: Warning: ZABBIX semaphores already exist, trying to recreate.
61790:20080212:132219 zabbix_agentd started. ZABBIX 1.4.4.

70590:20080212:133455 zabbix_agentd started. ZABBIX 1.4.1.
70901:20080212:133555 zabbix_agentd started. ZABBIX 1.4.1.
70948:20080212:133611 zabbix_agentd started. ZABBIX 1.4.1.
As you can see I compiled 1.4.1 agents to check if these are working but they just disappear.
I now use 1.1beta2 again.

For me, I used the old init.d script, which seemed to run zabbix-server as root. It appeared to create the semaphores then bomb.

So, I updated the init.d script with '--chuid zabbix' and started again, and then got this error.

To remove the semaphores, I executed (as root):

ipcrm -m 0x7a0104cc
ipcrm -S 0x7a0104cc

(though it could have been a -M, not sure looking at my history).

Hopefully, this will help somebody else.

i just tried the 1.5 beta release and am having semaphore issues. Whats the magic bullet for this?

I had the same problem.

I accidentally ran "zabbix_server" as "root", there were no processes created but somehow I couldn't run it as "zabbix" user again and it exited with the semaphor error message. So I rebooted the server and it worked instantly...

My installation:
CentOS 5.1 x86_64
2.6.18-53.1.14.el5
Zabbix 1.5 Beta (Downloaded: 18.03.08)

One of decisions. A script

It work!


If reboot then Semaphor key: 0x7a062c12 don't work.

After reboot, i try run zabbix with a normal user.... and problem seems fixed

Just wanted to chime in.
Using Debian Lenny (testing) installed and fully updated on March 25, 2008 installing Zabbix pre 1.5 (beta) build 5514 also taken on March 25, 2008.

I too had this problem. Using the solution to add --chuid to /etc/init.d/zabibx_server mentioned earlier worked. I then had the same error as maruscya. I did the same thing he did (reboot) and it worked!

Everything appears to be working thus far.

Since this thread is kind of old (well it has been going for a couple of months at least) I just wanted to let the developers know that it looks like the problem still exists. If any of the developers need more information from me, please let me know. I would be glad to help out anyway I can.

Centos 5.1 same problem

I get the following error under Fedora 7 when trying to execute zabbix_server (Version Pre 1.5 Build 4666)
/zabbix_server [2464]: ERROR: Can't recreate ZABBIX semaphores. [too many attempts]

Has anyone a fix for Centos 5.1 ?

su - zabbix -c "/etc/init.d/zabbix_server start"

Zabbix source downloaded and compiled today :
