Hello, were did graphs/screens go in the navigation bar in 1.5 trunk? Is it a misstake or do we always have to go thru 'dashboard' (which i do like a lot) to get to graphs/screens pages?

Yes, now graphs & sceens & maps are subscreens of dashboard. BTW you can click on the graph icon to open graphs in a separate tab/window in fullscreen mode where by clicking on the graph name in left top corner you can switch to normal view.

But then to go to graphs from trigger you have to go to dashboard -> graphs instead of graphs in the navigation bar.
Why not have both? I think being able to jump directly to graphs/screens is a good thing?Comment

We would like to make from the dashboard something like the center of the frontend, the latest issues(triggers) you can see in the dashboard, plus by navigating mouse on a problem number in system status you can see issues by host group. Triggers screen is for details..
P.S. Hmm guess all links from dashboard should open in a new tab!Zabbix | ex GUI developerComment

Chart and Dashboard
Hi Aly & ZABBIX Developers,
First of all, appreciate on your initiative.
Many of NMS product provide the "Dashboard" as the center console of many informations. This is the a good thing, but in my opinion, ZABBIX don't have to following it. More clear, ZABBIX should have own style and own characteristic. In ZABBIX 1.4 design, it think it fancy enough and showing the strong characteristic of ZABBIX.
Message that i got in ZABBIX v1.4 design: simplicity, humble, total control (all in one screen) and easy to understand.
My first expression when looking into dashboard is WOW, but get bit disappointed when i lost control of it. It will be great if we have control on how dashboard look likes, such as add/remove content in the dashboard. perhaps the content setup can be similar with screen. For example, how do i can remove the "Web monitoring" table because i'm not utilize it? How do i can put side by side of "System Status" table with "Status of ZABBIX? and etc..etc.
Thanks,
BEE
PS: Also, could you resize the "Show/Hide" and "Menu" button? i think it's not proportional.Last edited by bee; 17-03-2008, 11:00.Comment

The dashboard is not something we implemented just to have this feature. The ideas behind ZABBIX dashboard are:
1. To provide high (host group) level information
2. To simplify navigation. This is really important as I think 1.4.x lacks good navigation between different elements of ZABBIX GUI.
3. To have a customized, per-user configurable view
Note that current implementation of the dashboard does not meet all the goals yet. Please consider it as a proof-of-concept, which will be improved in later 1.5.x.Comment

I have had several people tell me the dashboard is very good addition to Zabbix. They like the fact that they can now save their favorite graphs and screens in one place. It's almost hard to go back to 1.4 now. :-)Comment

Dashboard a welcome addition, but is now removing features...
Specifically, it's no longer possible to open Screens or Graphs in a new tab. Due to the fact that we've got a large installation, it's necessary to have many views open of various different systems at once, looking at graphs and latest data for some systems, screens for others, etc. Previously it was trivial to use the standard "open in new tab" click in various browsers to open the screens/graphs/latest data URL's numerous times and then on each, pick the view of choice.
Now this step requires navigating through Monitoring -> Dashboard, clicking the "pretty" (but now extremely limiting) button for Screen/Graphs/Maps, then following the choosing-workflow to select the view you want. This must be done in its entirety for EACH view one wants open, since the button changes the view in place of the open Dashboard window! This is actually infeasible for use in production.
I willingly credit the dashboard feature's progress as long as it serves needs of customers, but I posit that the dashboard is currently less useful than the previous options due to this limitation. Additionally, it actually is counter to the idea of a single-place to view everything, since it is just a roadblock to opening new views AND mandates navigating away from the dashboard to do so.
My suggestion is that we bring back the individual links at the navigation bar, and/or rather than the silly "button" that's limiting, just use a linked-image that presents a URL that can be opened in a new tab. You can use the existing image of a button even, but we'll be able to right-click and copy the URL for reference to someone, or open it in a new tab automatically. For example, this is already in use for the icon to the left of every entry added to the "Favorite" box, those individuals are trivially openable. Extend this same technique to the button at the bottom, add a button to the top next to the "Menu" and "Show/Hide" buttons.
