    Is alpha10 stable (enough)?

Hi, I've recently been evaluating Zabbix 1.0 and Zabbix 1.1alpha10. I'm planning on using it just to monitor server uptimes using icmpping simple checks, and keeping track of SLAs using this data. Very simple setup, no agents installed, just a server.

My question for you is this:

Is Zabbix 1.1alpha10 (or some other alpha release) stable enough for this purpose? I really would like to use it, since it has better SLA reporting features (breakdown by daily, weekly, monthly, or year) than Zabbix 1.0. I just want to make sure it won't crash and burn on me one month after deployment...

Thanks for your advice and hints. If alpha10 isn't the most stable, would somebody please recommend a release that is?

    Thanks.

No response? Not even a quick "yes" or "no"? This list is dead... Perhaps Zabbix isn't ready for general use yet.

So sad, to see a project with a great architecture and potential suffer due to lack of support and documentation.

No insult intended but concluding a project is dead because you didn't get a response in less than 24 hours is a bit of a flamebait. This is Open Source software, nobody here is paid to answer anybody's questions in X number of hours. If you want commercial-level support, I'm sure Alexei will be happy to send you a quote for a support contract.

      To answer your question:

At my company, we're using Zabbix 1.1Alpha10 to monitor around 106 hosts and 963 Items (disks, bandwidth, services, CPU load, etc.). We're very happy with it. In my opinion, it goes above and beyond what Nagios, Big Brother, Mon, etc. provide in terms of features.

Of course it's Alpha software so it has some quirks, bugs and it's feature set is evolving rapidly from version to version. However, we never had problems serious enough to make it unusable.

Maybe everyone though someone else would give you the "2 thumbs up" sign. So, I might as well be the first. I say, "go for 1.1!!!" I have yet to find a zabbix 1.1 crash or issue (that was zabbix's fault). The interesting thing about simple icmp monitoring is that request for more "REAL" testing/evaluation is GOING to happen. I hear the PHB's quickly asking for, "how fast people see stuff" ... (Translation = "database response times"). So, you might as well be on the 1.1 track!

Thanks for your responses. I apologize if I sounded a little harsh, but I was a little concerned after not getting any responses to a few questions I've posted on these forums. I do participate on a number of open-source mailing lists, and I'm used to getting a response within a few hours on most issues. Not that I expect that. I understand that nothing is free, and I do take the time to answer others questions when I know the answer and help out when I can.

          Thanks again.

Just echoing what people have said. I've been using various versions of Zabbix for several months now (1.1 alpha10 for several weeks) and haven't had a single software problem. The only crashes I've had were hardware related.
