    Zabbix Database recommendation

    Hi,

I am using MariaDB for my Zabbix 5.0.1, thinking about moving to either PostgreSQL or TimescaleDB in order to benefit from smaller storage size utilized by the latter two databases, as my SQL is exceeding 180GB at the moment.

    Any thoughts, recommendations, etc..

I see, When it comes to MySQL I know very well how to tune it and work with it, so your answer saved me a lot of nuisance and effort, and I have never used PostgreSQL, this would have forced me to learn PostgreSQL and go through the migration process which is not straightforward!

      if you stick with mysql:

      1. setup partitioning - harder than in timescaledb ( its out of the box ) but possible - that will help you to save storage once the partitions will be removed
      2. try to change your templates and utilize "discard unchanged with heartbeat" preprocessing where it makes sense - for example if item interval is 5min and you setup discard time for 10min - values 1 1 1 - you save 1/3 onky 2/3 of teh values will be written in to the db
