Should I worry about partitioning with timescaledb

I have the following setup:

Number of items (enabled/disabled/not supported) 139429 138887 / 367 / 175
Required server performance, new values per second 802.37

I am thinking about moving to timescaledb for the sake of compression capabilities, so I have to worry about partitioning as well?

No, you get partitioning for free with TSDB. Zabbix' housekeeper drops partitions (chunks) instead of individual records in TSDB mode.
