    Nesting Proxies

    Hello,

we're currently working to build in some scaling and increased availability to our distributed infrastructure monitoring, and to accomplish this we were hoping to leverage proxy nesting but can't find anything that really indicates if this is possible in the current software design. The idea is that in each of our 2 main data centers we would have several proxies running behind a load balancer that we would point each on the site local proxies to. Doing this would allow us to aggregate and collect data from all of our remote/branch locations using pooled infrastructure that then sends back to an HA server pair.

This would be the flow of data:

Agent or SMTP polling <-> Remote Site Zabbix Proxy -> Data Center Edge Zabbix Proxy -> Zabbix Server

Is anyone out there today running a nested proxy design like this?

For fun, read the documentation - there are no proxy chains there. Don't reinvent the paper bike.

Undocumented and unsupported are two different things. Having an edge case that was never formally documented is still worth perusing. I did find some older posts that suggested it will work but just wanted to rehydrate the conversation around 7.0

Everything you find on the Internet about connecting proxies to each other is nonsense and does not work.

IF it would be supported, it would be documented..
