SNMP Traps from Backup Exec to Zabbix

    Hi All,

I am a newbie to Zabbix. Till now I am succesful in configuring the Zabbix server and agent. I am trying to get alerts for backup failures in Backup Exec 11d.

I add a windows machine, The template I use is " Template_Windows" and "Template_SNMPv1" . I see the host available and Monitoring enabled on them.

But I can't get the Backup failed job alerts on the same. But the alerts can be seen in the Event Log.

I have seen the previous thread in the same forum about monitoring backup exec alert through event log , But I felt it is tedious.

Can get some help on monitoring the same via SNMP Traps

Please excuse me if I am repeating same questions, I am a total newbie to this area and I desperately want to learn the same.

    Best Regards,

I will be the first to admit I don't know anything about backup exec but did you read this thread?
It seems to be all about monitoring backup exec.

Please pardon me if the thread is not relivant to your post. Again I don't know anything about it but it appears to be related.

      Hi ,

      Thanks for the reply.

I have seen this thread and tried the same. Somehow It didn't work for me.

Backup Exec is capable of sending SNMP Traps. While testing with a proprietary tool SNMP traps were received.

I feel monitoring using SNMP would be best rather than monitoring the SQL database which backup exec supplies along with it.

Again , I am may be wrong here , Sorry for my limited knowledge.

There was a thread in this forum on the SNMP too. But it led me nowhere.

      Thanks again for the reply.

      Best Regards,

You can always use windows event log monitoring to keep an eye on backup exec. It requires active monitoring on the agent and backup exec needs to be setup to write what you need to the event log, but it does appear quite stable for us.

          Hi All,

The event log monitoring did work for me. This time I took my time and followed the things step by step. I can see the Backup Exec alerts on the Zabbix Screen, Thanks for the thread and the XML file which helped me here.

Thanks a million to all , This issue is closed for me.

Sorry for repeating the same issue, when there was an actual solution for it.

          Best Regards,

          Athreya VC
