Trying to get an alert on a text item.

I am having problems working with text items. Basically here is what I want to do. This is not ideal by any means but I think zabbix ought to be able to handle it.

I have a series of machines which send a text item to zabbix using either an active agent or via trapperd. The text is freeform, it could be anything.

I want zabbix to raise an alarm when the text matches a regular expression and turns off the alarm when it matches some other expression.


Is this even possible?

Yes, this should be possible. Look up the regexp and iregexp functions in the manual.
