    Zabbix Critial vs Major Alerts

    I would like to get some feedback on how others are dealing with this situation:

    I would like to receive alerts 24/7 on alerts that I decide are critical such as down servers and such. Basically these alerts would "wake" me and my team up.

    I would like to receive alerts which I decide are major and below via email.

    Now most of us use blackberries and don't want to be awaken by alerts at night on our blackberries that come in via email.

    I was thinking of a few options, I can setup a modem and SMS text messages to pages so that the on-call gets pages, or possibly setup an asterisk server and send alerts to the Asterisk box, the Asterisk box would call the oncall and play a message, or is there something in Zabbix to address this already for instance setting specific monitors to alert 24/7 and others to just alert 8-5pm?

    Thanks,

    I haven't actually tried, but there is a time period condition in the action, this would allow the trigger to still fire but not create the alert notification. Or if you'd like, it can allow for a different type of notification for these non-critical alerts at night. If it's not clear I'll set up some test triggers on my development server.

      Hi bcarpio

      We do it this way, we have an mail and sms user and we use the time schedules within the user to alert at specified times.

      Like this for 24 hour alerts,
      user24 SMS +316460xxxx 1-7,22:00-23:59;
      SMS +316460xxxx 1-7,00:00-08:00;

      And this for daily alerts,
      user8-22 SMS +316460xxxx 1-7,08:00-22:00;

        This sounds very interesting.

        Also can you offer what you are using for SMS? What program?
