    actions how many sent?

    Dear all,

I have an ping action which sents an e-mail when the simple ping check returns 0.

Now this only happens once but i want it to be sent every minute?

    Anybody?

    According to the manual:

    "Parameter Description
The message will be sent to this user.
    User
Subject of the message. The subject may contain
    Subject
    macros as well.
The message itself. The message may contain macros.
    Message
Send repeat messages. ZABBIX stops sending
    Repeat
repeated messages if the trigger changes its status.
Number of repeated messages to send.
    Number of repeats
Delay (in seconds) before sending next repeat
    Delay between repeats
    message.
    Status Action status: Enabled, Disabled.
    "

But i don't have the item called 'repeat? anywhere in the action?

    running zabbix 1.4.5

Right, there is no repeat since 1.4.2 anymore. Nice.

How should an action be repeated now then? "It will be replaced by 'escalatons' in 1.6.

So what exactly is the work around in the versions in between? No repeats at all?

      Any advice appreciated.

You are correct, the versions inbetween do not have any kind of built in repeats.

I wrote about how I solved this problem in my blog:

Let me know if you have problems and I will see what I can do to help. Also note, that "advanced script" I speak about in the blog no longer exists. While it was more advanced and had more features, it was causing more trouble then it was worth and I never got around to fixing it. Also, many others have similar scripts posted within the forums so you may want to search around and see what they did.

        Have fun!

[edit] PS: Having been around on the forum for a while, I have noticed that certian people regularly post around the same time of day and that who posts when varies. It is because of the fact that Zabbix users are all over the world. The forum is active, but chances are, to get responses it will take a day or so.

          Thank you for reply cstackpole.

I'm pretty dissapointed in the removal of the repeat option, i don't want to hack some script to fix it but just the main program to work correctly as stated in the manual.

I can't believe this option has been removed and replacement will be in august 2008.

          Nice.......

The reason why it was removed was because it was not very intuitve to set up for those who had never done it before, it was buggy, and it could flood email servers quite easily (there were many bug reports from many people over many topics). Over all it was one of those things in which it was better to remove it then to leave it in while they made a better version. The whole process has been overhauled and if you want to test the beta you can see that it has gotten better (I think so anyway).

            Have fun!

Yes, the latest beta (1.5.x) includes support of escalations and repeated notifications.

                  Thank you.

However i'm a bit confused, i have 1 host in the group 'Linux Servers'.

                  - host has only 1 item 'ping' -> simple icmp check
                  - host has only 1 trigger 'ping' -> if ping results 1
                  - host has only 1 action 'ping' -> if 'trigger = ping'

Now the only time i will receive an actual alarm is when i:

                  - delete the host
                  - delete trigger/item/actions

                  - add host and status 'disabled'
                  - add item/trigger/action
                  - enable the host

Why isn't an action event changed on the fly? Am i doing something wrong? I just want it to flood me with messages (1 per minute) for testing?

What state is the action in? If the action is not active then there will be no emails. Also did you configure it to send multiple emails in the action?

                        Hello CP,

                        Yes the action is active.

                        The problem is like this:

                        step1:
                        - i add the host (but i don't monitor it because if i enable the monitoring i don't get an action at all)
                        - i add the item (and now there is a result in the dashboard)
                        - i add the trigger
                        - i add the action
                        - enable the monitoring for this host

                        = i receive the action

Now i want to alter something and see changes in effect, if i change the amount of messages sent for this action those changes aren't pushed realtime. Resulting in nothing and so i have to go through the whole process again:

                        step2:
                        - remove the action
                        - remove the trigger
                        - remove the item
                        - remove the host
                        - do step1

Now this can't be the way it should work right?

Attached you will find an screenshot of the problem.
