proc.num in 1.4.6 not working for an item

    Hi

I have 2 servers running the zabbix agent.
    Server 1 has agent 1.4.1
Server 2 has agent 1.4.6 (latest)

I am monitoring a process called "cpdavd" - a cpanel process

Here is the PS on Server 1
    root 31552 0.0 0.0 13060 816 ? S 2009 0:00 cpdavd - accepting connections on 2077 and 2078

Here is the PS on Server 2
    root 2439 0.0 0.4 13884 6704 ? S Aug11 0:00 cpdavd - accepting connections on 2077 and 2078

So you can see they are the same.

Server 1 is monitored correctly by zabbix using this item :
    proc.num[cpdavd]

Why does that item always return "0" on server 2 ?

Here is the debugging log on Server 2 :
    27708:20080812:091114 Processing request.
    27708:20080812:091114 In check_security()
    27708:20080812:091114 Requested [proc.num[cpdavd]]
    27708:20080812:091114 Sending back [0]

The actual Zabbix Server (the one doing the monitoring) is running 1.4.2.

Could it be related to the inclusion of the long command names in zabbix 1.4.6 ?

    Cheers
    Andy

    Are you running linux ?
is there a kernel using grsec on one of the two boxes ?
I think this is the issue because the grsec patch.

    Pascal.

      Thanks for replying.

The zabbix 1.4.1 box is Centos 4.4 - kernel 2.6.9-42.0.3.EL.xs0.4.0.263xenU

The zabbix 1.4.6 box is Centos 5.2 - kernel 2.6.18-92.1.6.el5PAE

SELinux is Disabled on Both servers

User zabbix runs as on both servers is "zabbix"
User apache runs as on both servers is "apache"

I seem to be able to monitor other processes fine :
      proc.num[cpbackup]
      proc.num[mysqld]

I think its related to the long name of the process I am monitoring.

I could try add a "ps fax | grep -v grep | grep cpdavd" to the zabbix_agent.conf and see if that works.
