    Proxy internet check

I just noticed that I posted my thread in the alpha forum, so I'm making a new posting here :
We are using two internet connections, the 2nd one is used as a back-up for internet radio, non work related internet traffic and also as a back-up for the first line.

I would like to create a internet/online checker for both lines, the first one wouldn't be very hard, but how would I have it check the proxy? It's using port 8080.

Can I do a service check or ping to www.google.com with proxy host : proxy and port 8080?
Anybody know an answer/solution to the above?

As far as I know Zabbix can't get through proxy. And I don't quite understand how you're going to ping smth using some port? If you're speaking about "icmpping" simple check - it's done via icmp protocol =)

        You're right about that.

Can you think of any other way of checking the status (online/offline) of our back-up internet connection (ADSL modem).

I could ping the adsl modem, but that would only check if the modem is online, not if the actual internet connection is available on that modem.

Try writing an external check, which'll be a script, that tries to get past proxy =) If it does print 1 otherwise - 0. It wont be hard I think.
