I really need to get my zabbix hosts sorted in the Overview page. Is there anyone that can provide me a hack so that the sorting is first based on group, and then on name? Instead of only on name.

In a related news, I am looking forward to redesigning the overview screens in order to make them usable in case of 50 hosts and more. Any thoughts? -
Perhaps you could "hide" hosts that do not have any triggers active since they're good anyway. I also have more hosts than triggers, maybe you want to put the hosts in rows and the triggers is columns?

Well . . . paging the the overview screens is kind of useless since it defeats the whole purpose of the 'overview'.
Perhaps swapping x&y axes and adding a filter (like trigger overview in 1.5) with checkboxes based on item/trigger, template, etc (content of the selected groups)Comment

Hi,
I aggree with a filter in overview.
We have +1200 hosts and overview takes a long time to charge and is too hard to get the exactly column to one item of one host.
An idea: overview can show only (data/trigger) hosts with some error and by a filter (if user wants) get whole data for hosts.
I think overview like a 'work view' to hosts with a active trigger, so we can see all data to this host (not only for active triggers).
We dont use overview to check/see each value to each item.

I think the Overview screen would be much more useful if the row/column with the Host Names and the column/row with the Items were to remain visible all the time. Just like can be done in MsExcell.
At present when you scroll down or right, you need to scroll back again to see which host or item you are looking at.

Would anyone have a hack for the frontend so the sorting is done on group first? I can donate US$ 20 for a fix :P
The current sorting on hostname is still causing trouble for us. We currently fix the sorting by adding a group prefix to each hostname, but that way the hostname does not match the server hostname anymore, so we can only use the agent in passive mode (we don't want to overrule the hostnames in the agent configuration on all servers).
A patch would be highly appreciated and a major improvement for us! Also seems the cleanest approach. Running 1.8.2Comment

Since I wasn't able to get a (paid) patch quick enough from the Zabbix developers themselves, one of our own developers has now figured it out. The attached patch works for us. Note that the group IDs are hardcoded. Feel free to further improve it of course. Written for 1.8.2
Basically the patch first shows the "special sorting groups". That way we have full control over the ordering of hosts in the overview.Comment

I have 1300+ hosts and the overview page is considerably cluttered from the amount of items (~20) per host. Having the option to hide items from the overview page would be great. Hiding hosts wouldn't be as helpful since you can already group hosts and sort in that fashion.
Maybe there is already a way to do this that I am not aware of?Comment
