Adding Multiple Items for Switch interfaces

    Hi,

I'm quite new to Zabbix , but maybe someone can clarify something.
I used the forum search, but that wasnt helpfull enough for me.

Im trying to make a template for a 48 port switch.

I'm planning on monitoring some interface statistics for this switch. However, from what i've seen in the item configuration, i can not batch-add some counters. Is this correct? Or am i missing something?
I think i'm looking for a option to add a range of OID's or something.

Do i need to add items for every port? for example 3 counters per port = ~150 per switch? hope not.

Yes you will need to add an item into Zabbix for every switch data point you wish to monitor, however templating is your friend. Download XML Notepad, it's a great XML editor that I use when editing templates. MIB Browser is another program which can be very helpful for traversing the MIB tree of your switch. You can also always use snmpwalk but sometiems coalating the data points can be a trick

Also try searching for "snmpwalk script". Others have written scripts to create a template from an snmpwalk on a device. You can then take that and tune the template.

There are ways to speed the process and not use the web UI to input all the items.
