    Host Template Linkage

    Hi,

I am just testing the template linkage (1.1 alpha 10) for the first time and its not working, well I can't get it to work. Basically i am trying to do the following:

    1. create a template (host1) with a item and trigger for icmpping
    2. create a new host (host2)
    3. i link the the items and triggers from host1 to host2 using the host linkage dropdown box.

that i thought should be it however i am not seing any items or triggers in host2. From my understading shouldn't all the items and triggers in host1 be visible in host2? am i missing something?

    look forward to you response.

    hi,
it's normal, you configured the template in first. It's necessary (with the host creation) in spite of the linkage, to say to apply the desired template.
So with the host creation to make "Use templates of this host" and choose the template then to make "Add items from templates".

Normally, the host will have the template.
Sorry for my english but I hope to help you

ok so just say that i applied the items for the templates what happens if i delete an item off the template, does this then get replicated to teh rest of the hosts that are in teh linkage or do i have to delete them manually?

      thanks for your reply.

if you delete an item off the template, logically it will be removed in cascade on host.

          Else,the logic is:

          1-Create a Template
          2-Create a Host
          3-Linkage host/template
4-Configure the Template with item, trigger, action

In this order you will not have a problem

ok thanks i was doing it in the wrong order.

also just to add as i guess as a step five that before any items, triggers get added to the host, you first have to manually update the host by clicking on the "add items from template box". this is probably self explanitory to some people but i thought that i would just add it anyhow as by just linking the template to the host does not add all the items, triggers etc. Maybe the linkage button should say something like "Link and Add Config to Host".

Also when you update a trigger it does not update the rest of the linked hosts? Is this a bug?

            correct me if i'm wrong.

            Thanks.

yes, there are known bugs with host-template linkage (specifically with updating templates) in 1.1alpha10. however, there are some workarounds posted in the forum.
