Monitoring firewall logs

I'm interested in setting up Zabbix so that I can monitor and analyze firewall logs. We're using Sonicwall firewall and we've setup syslog to record the firewall logs. I'm wondering if I can have zabbix to retrieve the log from the syslog server. I'm thinking of setting up Zabbix within the syslog server linux box for one of our network, do I still need a Zabbix agent? What if the syslog server and the Zabbix server is on a different network (behind firewall), how should I set it up?
