    Link Status Indicator & SNMP

What's the most appropriate Link Status Indicator for a map, between two SNMP devices? I have a switch & firewall and would like to put an indicator on the link.

I thought of doing the following...
Create 'icmpping' items on the Zabbix server for each device I wanted to ping...then the map should give a fairly good indication of where a problem is...

    For example:
Two indicators: 1 to switch, 1 to firewall
If the switch goes down, both pings will fail (so it will appear that the firewall may be inaccessible, which may not be true for everyone...just those behind the failed switch.)
If the firewall goes down, only the ping to that will fail (the switch will still appear up). It may generate a few false positives, but by tracing the failures back to their source, I think it would work decently well.

The problem with this idea is....my Ping items don't show up in the Link Status Indicator listing, and I don't know exactly why...assuming it may be due to them not being SNMP or Zabbix agent types, but not sure.

Anyone else have a resolution for this issue? Thanks in advance.
Working...
