Newbie Installation Issue Zabbix 1.4.2

Hi,

Seem to be doing fairly well with the install until I get to configuration step 6 of the install. Getting message configuration file "fail" with the following errors.

* Incorrect configuration file[/usr/share/zabbix/conf/zabbix.conf.php]
* mysql_pconnect() [function.mysql-pconnect]: Access denied for user 'zabbix'@'localhost' (using password: YES)[/usr/share/zabbix/include/db.inc.php:46]


Not sure how to troubleshoot and can't find in previous posts. Any pointers please for a newbie at Linux (Ubuntu Server 8.04) and Zabbix. Many thanks, Colin.

Welllllll...I thought I was downloading/installing 1.6 but I seems to have gotten 1.4.2.

Did I say I was a newbie??

How do i get 1.6 then which is what I would much prefer?

what is a reliable repository that holds 1.6 please? Anyone??

I don't know if it is already available in version 1.6 but u can still compile it by hand...
it is not very hard at all & u can have some help if needed

help sounds good Vinny...however let me try first before I reach out. Just out of interest, why is it not in any of the repositories yet? From the previous post from Alexei it seems that they are keen we should use v 1.6?
