Problem Installing on CentOS 5.2 for evaluation

I'm trying to install Zabbix 1.6 on CentOS 5.2 for the first time. I created the Zabbix User, created the database and uploaded the Data and Images scripts. I also did the ./Configur and it told me to do the Make Install. It runs a bunch of stuff and ends without warnings or errors but no Zabbix folder is created in /usr/local/ or any other place I even tried with Make Instal --/usr/local but no success.

I enabled the agent and saw that it did compile the agents under opt/zabbix-1.6/bin/Win32 since there are 3 .exe files.

I'm running the install from /opt/zabbix-1.6. If anyone has ideas I will appreciate their help. I'm on my final evaluation of the system we will implement in our company and the only one I has not been able to install is Zabbix. By the way, they should make a binary installer like the other 3 I'm comparing Zabbix against (Zenoss, Osmiun and OpsView).

Please if you have used any of these 3 and can compare pros/cons with Zabbix, it will rock!

Anyone know where this guy can get rpm's for zabbix?

I would hate to compile as a beginner .... I think make install puts your files in /usr/sbin or /usr/bin. I'm not sure, I use packages I hate compiling.

    try:
    find / -name "zabbix_server"

I told one person to install debian testing for a zabbix box. Using their packages seems to be easiest.

You can't compile windows agents on linux. Those come pre-compiled.

This project community seems it on Coma

Of all forums I have visited in my quest to evaluate Net Monitoring Sys, I have received assistance from thriving communities. The Zabbix community have very few posts and excitement for just havig a new release.

I'm sad because the product at least on screenshots and info looks great and have a great manual, but happy that I discovered before expending more time and effort that the path of installing and troubleshooting Zabbix is a solo way unlike other projects like Zenoss, OpsView and Osmius.

Thanks, but I will not need now the RPMs anyway

Sorry to hear. I honestly would help, but I don't have the time to test installing on redhat and outline it in detail. I think maybe that the people here are more experienced and don't consider installing it very difficult or time worth.

I'd very much like to hear what your final decision is!

Oh, did you check the wiki for help installing?

What was the full configure command with all the options you used to compile? Zabbix should compile fine on CentOS... I'm running it on a 5.2 box myself.

              gmicalzoma,

If your "make install" went fine (and it sounds like it did), you should have a zabbix_server binary at /usr/local/sbin/zabbix_server

Zabbix doesn't create a directory called zabbix as you mentioned in your original post. In other words, there will not be a /usr/local/zabbix directory after "make install"

(and yes, it would be helpful if you could post the ./configure command you used)

                Zabbix installation on CentOS

Have a look at this page. I used it to install Zabbix 1.6 on CentOS 5.2.
