how does fping work in zabbix?

    Hello,

I don't know how many ping packets fping sends by default if you use item "icmppingsec". If it sends more then one packet what value is used? Average ping reply, maximum or minimum? Can I somehow tune Zabbix to send as many ping packets (for "icmppingsec" item) as I want?

    Thanks and best regards

I believe that it sends three ping packets and uses an average value for the three replies. This is due to the fact that if you are just doing single pings, it may take a bit longer due to ARP lookups along the route, so it will be flattened out with the multiple pings.

Thank you Tenzer for this info. Do you know if you can somehow adjust how many packets it sends or is this compiled in Zabbix? If it is - which file is it? Can you just change that to do "fping -c5" instead of "-c3"?

Search for "-c3" in [zabbix dir]/src/libs/zbxicmpping/icmpping.c.
