    Server not receiving SNMP data from 161 thru Proxy

    Zabbix proxy not receiving snmp data from network servers and devices.

    I'm trying to go about testing the proxy on my network to test functionality of it.

    I noticed when i setup the proxy all my servers are discovery VIA proxy but i can not receive any snmp data from them only the server running the agent i can receive data from. I haven't tested any of my cisco devices yet.

    the only time im able to receive this data is when disabling the proxy for that host and setting the port in the zabbix web interface -> Hosts to 161 then i start receiving SNMP data, and yes it all on the same network, but i figured for testing purposes i could running everything through the proxy

    how do i get the proxy to receive/trap SNMP data from port 161 and then server getting this data from the proxy

    I can snmpwalk all servers from the proxy or server and get snmp info

    Server -> Proxy -> SNMP 161 (Server SNMP Enabled, Cisco Devices SNMP)
    \-> Agent (Agent Test Server1)

    I am not an expert with SNMP by any means, but I do successfully monitor several routers via SNMP either directly or via zabbix_proxy.

    I don't think it's relevant to your testing, but one thing I found non-obvious at first was that for hosts that are monitored only via SNMP, the port number in the host definition is irrelevant. The SNMP port number is defined in the items themselves, which in my case are template items. This makes it possible to monitor SNMP in addition to an agent or other method. So just FYI, when you change the host port for your testing, it has no effect on the SNMP port. This shouldn't make any difference in the tests you described, it only matters if you need to actually change the SNMP port, which you don't seem to be wanting to do. (In which case you need to change it in _every_ item, where I hear the mass update button can be very handy.)

    That said, I've had no noticeable problems monitoring SNMP devices via zabbix_proxy. I define the host exactly as I would for direct monitoring, except I select the proxy to use and make sure I used the routers local IP address to the proxy.

    I also remind myself to be aware of the proxy configuration sync delay (I have mine set to 1 hour) so if I want to see results immediately for testing I manually restart the proxy to force it to sync.

    When I put zabbix_proxy into service, I created hosts for remote routers by simply cloning an appropriate local host, changing the name and IP, and selecting the proxy to use. Within the hour as the proxies synced I had data populating fine for all of them.

        Hi low10sws6,

        I am running into same issue as yours. I couldn't get any data from my cisco via SNMP. Can you please kindly share the fix if you already found it?

        Thanks in advance.
