Server network goes down, get an alert for every device (too many!)

I'm running zabbix 1.4.5 and I have it configured and working pretty well. The only problem I have is that when my hosting provider goes down and all of my boxes become unreachable (zabbix is on a different lan), I get alerts for every device and then again when it comes back up.

Is there any way to get zabbix to realize that everything (or a subset of devices) is down, and just send me one alert? Sorry if this has been asked before. I searched but I'm not sure I'm using the correct terminology. Thanks in advance if anyone has any recommendations.

this would be host dependencies. Zabbix currently only supports trigger dependencies.

      Thanks for the Reply!

Interesting. I'm curious how users with very large installations do this. If something catastrophic happens, do they get 1000 text messages?

Seems like there must be some way to get this behavior. Can triggers be dependent on triggers from other hosts? If yes, it might be possible for me to monitor the firewall, and if I loose a connection to that, then the other triggers won't fire?

      Thanks again.

This is exactly how it should be configured! Yes, a trigger may depend on any other one. Dependencies, dependencies, dependencies!!!
