I really don't know what to do about this?
Apache is installed as a service on the Windows machine. What can I do to make Zabbix actually know that it is really running there?

Umm.. the show details shows this. Is that what you asked for?
        Code:
        {ipkdbserv:proc_cnt[httpd].last(0)}<1

now when you look at the task manager, is apache listed as 'httpd,' or is it listed as something else, like 'httpd.exe?'

if that doesnt help, try using the actual service name as defined by the 'services' module of the control panel.

personally, i'd just use the service_state key for monitoring windows services...
