Monitoring Exchange 2003 on windows cluster

    Hello,
    My situation:

Two windows2003 running servers, both running MS Exchange 2003. They are connected with cluster.
I need to monitor some services (POP3 for example), so I create a new Host with correct service IP and port, then I create a new Item service_state[Exchange POP3] (this is service name under 'Name') and add a new Trigger for POP3 state.
The problem is that service state is allways equal to '1' (paused), either service is paused or not.

What can I do about it? What is wrong there? I am confused ;/

    Thanks for replies

Service State item 1 = Running

    Hello there.

I have several external and internal (Performance Counter) checks on Windows Servers enabled in Zabbix.

I think that in the Zabbix Manual (I have SVN revision 16) it states that Simple Checks return 1 if the service is up (TCP connection is ok to specified port).

You must be confusing Simple Checks (TCP service checks, no builtin Windows agent) with Service State checks (with an installed agent). They both have different return codes and you are probably expecting the wrong one, please check the manual.

      Thanks for reply, Ivo

So, you are saying that I should use simple check because of cluster? Or it's possible to configure zabbix agent to work on cluster?

You can go way beyond simple monitoring by installing the agent directly in the Cluster Groups. I blogged on this very thing this morning - check out this post to read how to do it.
