    Active Jabber post installation

I think i compiled the Zabbix server without Jabber and other protocol i realize i need now.

Do I need to recompile the whole server for activating Jabber now or is it possible just to configure it now on a running zabbix server?

You will need to recompile the whole server.

Damm, I had almost all configured so nicely already. Doing a new install will kill my changes to the database and configuration i suppose.

I just compiled the default options on my first install and it was not easy on CentOS x64 to make it work. Besides Jabber what else should I compile at start to avoid this headeache in the future?

Just recompile the server with the desired flags and copy the new server binaries over your existing ones. No need for any new configuration.

Just like that? Compile and overwrite? That seems simple. I will try it then. Will backup first in case new binary dont do the work.

There isnt anything at all to adjunt in the config or init files?

Nibb, since you're on CentOS, you should be able to use the Fedora 10 SRPM or RPMs with little or no problem. The RPMs won't populate the database, but it sounds like you're already past that point.

I wasnt aware Fedora had the latest version of Zabbix. One of the reasons I compiled myself was because the distributions in the OS where old. At least on the ones i tried it came with an old zabbix on it.

I suppose this distros have jabber and most functions activated. Thanks allot I will try then right away.

Before going ahead I readed the manual again and it says Jabber requires the library Iksemel. Glad I did since I dont have it. So compiling would have being useless.

I have searched Iksemel with yum and even tried to install rpms for it and its seems i cannot find it for my Centos 5.2 x64

Doest someone know how to get iksemel-dev installed?

Ok installed libraries, recompiled and Zabbix shows "In progress" when sending a Jabber message. Did not tested to receive it but I suppose it works since before that it only showed mail notification and not Jabber messages.

You will receive an error message during the "./configure ..." command about missing libraries, if you don't have them installed. So you don't waste a lot of time and resources on that.

Yes I did actually but I installed the required libraries and everything went ok except now im drowning in such a dumb thing as not knowing how to use that function.

I tried Trillian, Pidgin and Google talk but I dont receive alerts.

I have set up the Jabber config in Zabbix with the login/pass of google talk which is supposed to support Jabber but nothing.

On the admin Jabber email i have also set up the email. Zabbix tried to send the message as i see on the dashboard but after a while it fails.

Maybe im missing here something. Its not important actually but after the trouble of doing this I wish i could at least see whats this function for and if its useless to have it configured.
