    Nodes vs Proxies Questions

    Hello,

    I'm currently using Nagios for network monitoring, but considering moving to Zabbix, I have some questions about nodes vs proxies and hope you can help answering these question:

    1- My understanding is that nodes do not report back to Zabbix server meaning the information collected by nodes are not stored in Zabbix server DB, but one can see the information nodes collect from hosts using Zabbix server, while proxies collect the information from hosts and store information in Zabbix server DB, is this correct?

    2- How one can have redundancy for Zabbix server, in case of any failure to one server the second one will be ready to take over?

    3- Adding a host to a node or a Zabbix server seems pretty stright forward, however adding host to a proxy is not, for instance, the IP in the zabbix_agend.conf on the host is it the IP of the Zabbix server or the proxy?

    4- In case one has multiple remote locations, with tens to hundreds of hosts in each location, what is the best way to go proxies or nodes?

    Thank you,

    -T

    Hi,

    1- My understanding is that nodes do not report

    ZBX-Proxy collect data from nodes and delivery to ZBX-Server. In conf some directives are to control delay to ZBX-Proxy send an get new data to/from ZBX-Server:

    ===
    ProxyLocalBuffer=0
    ProxyOfflineBuffer=1
    ConfigFrequency=3600
    HeartbeatFrequency=60
    ===

    2- How one can have redundancy for Zabbix server, in case of any failure to one server the second one will be ready to take over?
    Our friends have made some docs to help:

    ===
    http://www.zabbix.com/wiki/doku.php?...ghavailability
    ===

    3- Adding a host to a node or a Zabbix server seems pretty stright forward, however adding host to a proxy is not, for instance, the IP in the zabbix_agend.conf on the host is it the IP of the Zabbix server or the proxy?
    The proxy.
    We use both ... i mean all ZABBIX (proxy, server, node) IPs in the agend conf.

    4- In case one has multiple remote locations, with tens to hundreds of hosts in each location, what is the best way to go proxies or nodes?
    Its a personal view ... my choice is PROXY, because we have a 'Central Console' in ZABBIX Server, all confs can be made in one interface.
