    agentd failure in windows - manual vs. auto

    Geeting things working in general but seem to have some kind of "service" issue in windows.

    For starters I am using the same zabbix_agentd.conf file on the zabbix server and all agentd machines.
    Server=IPofZabbixServer

    # Server port for sending active checks

    #ServerPort=10051

    # Unique hostname. Required for active checks.

    Hostname=ZABBIX Server

    # Listen port. Default is 10050

    #ListenPort=10050

    # IP address to bind agent
    # If missing, bind to all available IPs

    #ListenIP=127.0.0.1

    I was unsure if hostname on the agents should be the agent hostname?
    If I let windows start the agent it might say it is started but does not work. I need to open a command promt to make it work. Is there something subtle with the agentd when running on windows.

    Also unabe to get 2 windows microsoft sql2000 servers up. can I use the sql2005 template even though it is sql2000?

    But again my main question is about agentd running on windows and if that is complicated by hostname in the config.

    Yes, it needs to be the unique name of the host the agent is on. Not sure if hostnames with spaces are allowed.

    Yeah, most things will work with Sql2000. That's annotated here where you download other templates: http://www.zabbix.com/wiki/doku.php?...trib:templates

      MS sql2000 sql2005

      made progress getting to two MS SQL 2000 machines online to zabbix.
      Zabbix template in use for them both is Template_Microsoft_SQLServer_2005 .

      machine1 collects some system data and a couple basic SQL items.

      machines2 seems to collect almost nothing. What drives this? Are there microsoft performance monitors that need to be turned on in microsoft hence the different results between 2 server on my site.
      errors in log show :
      13197:20081205:123304 Parameter [perf_counter["\SQLServeratabases(_Total)\Log File(s) Size (KB)"]] is not
      supported by agent on host [machine2] Old status [0]
      13197:20081205:123304 Enabling host [machine2]
      13185:20081205:123308 Parameter [perf_counter["\SQLServer:Memory Manager\Total Server Memory (KB)"]] is not
      supported by agent on host [machine2] Old status [0]
      @jkzabbix:/tmp$

      Also i don't know very much about MS SQL in general. Do the items and comparisons in the template need to be modified because of spelling changes in Microsoft service name changes? Any advice in this area would be appreciated.

        Performance counter syntax is unique to each machine. To get the exact syntax, run this command at a DOS prompt:
        Code:
        typeperf -qx > perfcounters.txt
        That will generate a text document of the performance counters supported on that particular machine. Do a search in the document for the perf counter that is not working for you, and correct the syntax. Could be something as simple as a space or underline varying from what you already have.

        Change the syntax through the Zabbix GUI on the item in question, give it a few moments and see if it changes to supported.
