    Monitoring databases using ODBC/IPMI

    Hi,

I see that zabbix 1.6.x Changelog information that zabbix now provides ODBC interface for monitoring databases. Also it provides some IPMI abilities:

    - [DEV-211] added support of IPMI (Sasha)
    - developed database monitoring via ODBC (Eugene)

But I can't find anything about ODBC in PDF manual from
    http://www.zabbix.com/downloads/ZABB...ual%20v1.6.pdf
Also documentation about IPMI is not so much useful.

I'm looking for some example templates for monitor mysql and/or Oracle databases and/or for monitor some Sun hardware

    Regards

I can't help with the ODBC question, but I can offer some advice on IPMI. I'm working on monitoring Sun hardware (X4100M2/X4200M2) with Zabbix 1.6.1, and have found that the code for monitoring of discrete sensors (ie: presence sensors, failure sensors) is not finished in the release version of Zabbix 1.6.1:
    Code:
    http://zabbix.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10762
I have (crudely) "filled in" the missing code necessary to make discrete sensors work. I can provide a patch later this week, once i've fully tested it, if you would like to use it. I'm also working on some templates for the X4100M2/X4200M2 systems which take advantage of the IPMI keys available on those systems.

Regarding ODBC monitoring. 2 things can happen.
1- Get lucky and a developer comes to aid.
2- Look at the source code.

If I haven't heard of it and its not documented in the forums or the manual, then its probably not ready for use... but the only way to be sure is #1 and #2 above

EDIT: I checked the svn logs for about the past year and didn't see any mention of odbc. Do you have a date?

IPMI is there and is ready to use! As for database monitoring, while the code is there as well, the functionality has not been well tested and thus is not officially supported in 1.6.x.
