    Create template from host

    Hi,

As a test for 1.6, we created a host with a lot of items important to us. We could of course clone this host, but it would be nice if we could create a template with the items, triggers, graphs, screen of this one host. Is this possible?

    Thanks,

    Geert

IMHO there is not much difference how hosts and templates are handled. I also created a new host with my items and triggers in the first step. Then exported it via xml and just replaced the hostname with the {HOSTNAME} macro. You can import the template then and assign it to your hosts. Your items and triggers should now be shown in grey color meaning that they are used from the template.

      mlange,

Thanks for this. Was able to create a template.
Don't know if this has something to do with it, but in the .xml, I changed the status to 3 (I did an export from an existing template to check).

Why not just go to Configuration --> Hosts --> Templates --> Create Template

then, copy the items, triggers, and graphs to the template.

Maybe you can try this next time.

Disclaimer: All of the above is pure speculation.

This is indeed a simpler and good solution. Thanks.
