how can I get Zabbix to monitor my switches?

I'm new to Zabbix and I wanted to set it up so that it could give me basic information about the switches on the network. Basically just an up/dowm and maybe load/traffic would be enough.

Can anyone point me to a how-to about how to set this up?

I've read the manual about it and I have created a host and then I have the output from snmpwalk, but I'm just having a little trouble putting it together so that I can make a 'switch' profile that will monitor if it's up and getting it to show up in the monitoring page.

Can anyone give me a little guidance?

Check the template for Cisco_2960 (select 'all' group).
There are items for traffic on all ports. You can change oid ifInOctects to operStatus if you need to see port status.
Details depends on type of switch you are using.

I don't have a template for that. The only ones I have that might be of use are Template_SNMPv1_device and Template_SNMPv2_device.

There are a fair few device templates on the wiki and the Zabbix Cookbook area.
