    Best solution for ZABBIX

I would like to have some suggestions on Server specifications for the best results and stability for running ZABBIX.

I am currently using Mandrake 10.0 on a P4 machine with 1GB RAM and 3x 75GB SCSI drives with hardware RAID5 configuration and with 110GB space for MySQL.

I need to monitor 100+ servers and about 200+ network equipment (routers, switches, hubs etc.) and the history and trends (average updates is 60seconds) must be kept for 2years, with SLA’s.

During the last month we experienced power problems (UPS failed on power failure), during this the ibdata file got corrupted, MySQL refused to start and I had to redo the database from a backup. I know there is never any guarantee with databases during such an event, but I was asked to investigate the possibility.

So some suggestions would be appreciated.

I am sure some good MySQL "cracks" are reading this forum. But your question is more a database question in general. I can imagine you get better results if you ask this question in a general linux mailing list or forum. Or better in a place dedicated to databases and MySQL only.

Did you think about making a MySQL cluster with two computers? If possible having the computers on different power sources.

      Rudolf,

Thanks for replying but I need to know the following:

Is Mandrake one of the better Linux flavours for running ZABBIX?
Does the system meet the requirements for the scale of monitoring?
What are the advantages why ZABBIX moved from MyISAM to ibdata?

I don’t know if I’m wrong but MyISAM is a limited database (4GB) concerning total size whereas ibdata is virtually unlimited (4TB).

The cluster option was discussed but you need more “servers” so this will unlikely not be a solution.

I had an idea while typing this message the issue is “being human” and not having the time to do an actual full database backup.

Alexei if you reading this can you consider building in a ZABBIX system backup (ZABBIX Database and configuration files) to a remote ftp server or something similar, where the ZABBIX server actually stops collecting data and start making a ZABBIX system backup where after it will continue collecting data?

I'll second that an integrated dump feature would be a terrific idea for the admin section. Need to get around the maximum execution time in php I think though (correct me if I'm wrong).
