I would like to monitor Linksys switches (and any other equipment). I am using zabbix 1.6. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Network appliances normally support the SNMP protocol, you should check if your devices does this. If they do, then have a look at the template gallery and see if the device is on the list. If not, then try out one of the generic SNMP templates, they normally give out quite a lot of information even though they aren't specifically for your device. -
Thanks for the reply Tenzer,
I did some reading into this and I discovered that a Simple check would also work. All I need to do is ping certain switches and see if I get a reply. The problem I'm having is that I want to create a template that has ONLY the Simple Check for ping on it and I cant seem to do it. Probably a really noob question but I just find this stuff a little difficult. How would I do this?Comment

Create a copy of the 'Standalone' template, and call it, say, 'PingOnly'. Copy into it the ping check from Standalone, and also the triggers if you're interested in being alerted. Et voila, one ping-only template.
Alternatively you could link the Standalone template to a host, then in the Items section for the host [yes, the host, not the template], click 'Disable' next to all the items you're not interested in.
There's always more than one way to do it in Zabbix.Comment
