Possible to run Zabbix server 1.6.2 with older agents

Do I have to compile all new agents for Zabbix 1.6.2 or can I use the precompiled http://www.zabbix.com/download.php? I am installing Zabbix from source for the first time.

    Thanks in advnance!

The server is backwards compatible with the agents, however it is not recommended to use agents with a major version higher than the server. For instance it's not recommended to use a 1.6.x agent with a 1.4.x server. It is likely possible to use a 1.6.2 agent with a 1.6.1 server because the underlying protocol rarely changes within a major version.

Thanks for the information. I was hoping I wouldn't need to compile my own Solaris Sparc packages.
