    adding servers to be monitored

    Greetings all,

at work, we are doing a massive audit of our existing zabbix infrastructure, as well as making sure that other servers have an agent installed. what im being told by our monitoring guys is that each server we add to zabbix, we have to manually define what filesystems are going to be monitored (ie, apparently they cannot be auto discovered at the time the agent is added to the monitoring system)? i personally only have experience with cacti (which is snmp based), so im a little taken aback when they request all this file system information from me (for well over 200 servers, ).

so my question obviously, can or does zabbix automatically discover file system information for hosts as they are added? i just want to make our deployment as easy and painless for all parties involved.

    Agent can't...

As far as I know, agent can't auto-discover filesystems...

We have over a hundred Linux machines and few Windows ones monitored. Some had additional filesystems and mount-points, those had to be specified manually in a Template made for'm (with Items and Triggers of course). No need to configure anything on the agent side but one (Zabbix admin) must know that a machine has more filesystems or mount points on it so he or she could add those items and triggers or simply add it to the appropriate Template.

    P.S.
I'd make a script that would connect and check for those with more filesystems, just to ease the pain of diggin' through 200 machines...

      Hi,

It's true that Zabbix can't auto-discover your drive but you can add more drive in your template and then you will see which drive receive no data.

I always double check a drive letter with no data from Zabbix before removing it but this way you can speed up the process instead of adding drive(items and triggers) to every host that need it, you just disable it for specific host that don't need it.

You could make a script that will output the drives informations from all you Windows server and send this to your monitoring guy so he will be able to double check every "dead" drive in Zabbix.

Zabbix is really a great product but it just lack of auto discovery function
