jabber set up

trying to learn jabber at the same time I'm trying to use it with zabbix so I'm a little lost.

Trying to get Jabber notification working with Zabbix.
I feel like I’m putting an engine back together and have some bolts, a fan, and some belts left over – I don’t think I have it right!

In Zabbix
Under admin -> media types the default is

DESC jabber
TYPE jabber
JabberID [email protected]
Password ……


Under admin -> users -> media the default is
TYPE Jabber
Send To ?????????


From the chat side I’m trying to use google-talk since that seems work through firewall without issues.

So if my google-talk id is [email protected] and password of ‘password’ .

And from my research to connect to google-talk from other jabber clients you point to talk.google.com .

SO to update the Zabbix definitions would it look like?

Under admin -> media types the default is

DESC jabber
TYPE jabber
JabberID [email protected]
Password ‘password’


Under admin -> users -> media the default is
TYPE Jabber
Send To talk.google.com

Does that make sense? Has anyone else done this with Zabbix jabber support & googletalk?
