A few tests from the linux box (zabbix server) first:

    telnet <xp host ip> 10050

==> Can you connect to the agent from the server ?

If telnet manages to connect but the connection is abruptly close by remote host (winxp), that may point to an "authentication" problem although zabbix_server then gives a different error message (like "got empty string - assuming permission problem" or something like that).

Did you create a firewall rule on WinXP (or completely disable the firewall although it may not be the wisest choice) to allow inbound connections to zabbix agent ?

And by the way are you sure zabbix agent is running in the first place ?
Try "netstat -p TCP -a" on the winxp client host to see whether zabbix agent is listening on :10050.

      Thank you very much.
I try telnet agent_ip_adresse 10050 from the server i get this message once connected "connection closed by foreign host".
I disabed the firewall of winxp and the anti virus so the problem was solved: availability = available.
But as you know we can't work without anti virus on windows how can i manage??

You need to work out if it's the AV or the firewall causing your problem, and use the management tools of either the AV or the firewall to create an exception for the zabbix agent service.
